Whole 30 and whole crazy

So friends….it has been a while since I’ve blogged.

A long while.

Over a year in fact.

Far too long.

And I could give you a million excuses…because I have them…but suffice it to say, I’ve been busy. I’m in a new stage of life, partnering with my husband in ministry, trying to learn and grow and develop in new ways in that, managing (barely) to hold it all together as mom, wife, minister, baker (another new side biz) and student.

But blogging has been on my mind for several months now. I’ve missed it. I’ve missed you. So I’ve decided to start up again, but this month will look a bit different.

You see, I’m starting a Whole30 today.  If you don’t know what a Whole30 is, it is a month long elimination diet to help reset your body.  You eliminate sugar, dairy, grains, alcohol, beans, soy, additives and preservatives, along with many other things. Pretty much all the good, tasty, delicious, bad-for-you-but-taste-incredible things that are fun to eat you can no longer eat.

It sounds miserable, doesn’t it?

But it’s not.

I’ve managed to muscle through a several rounds of it before, beginning many times, but often only making it to week 3. I have completed 2 rounds, and let me tell you, it is so worth it. By the end of the round, I felt great. My body felt healthier. My headaches were less. My joints didn’t ache as much. I lost a few pounds. My clothes fit better.

So once again, I’m starting a new round of Whole30 in the month of August, and this time, I’ve decided to blog about it. To share my joy, my pain, my ups and downs. I’m hoping that doing this added exercise will also help keep me more accountable. There may be days that I only write a few lines, and there may be days like this one where I ramble on forever.

But you’ve missed me and my ramblings, right?

And yes, I will probably weave some faith in these posts too. Because I have done this before, I do know that I rely on my faith to get through some of those rough, want-to-eat-everything-or-kill-everybody days.  So, yeah, you can expect some of that in these posts too. And the hubs is doing this with me, so that should add to the humor…or the pain. Either way….

If you want more info on Whole30, your best bet is to go directly to their website. If you are crazy enough to want to try to do this too, there are tons of ideas on Pinterest for recipes, hints, and tools to make this successful. My best advice is to plan well before beginning. Read about it as much as you can. Gather a bunch of different recipes (because you will get sick of eating eggs every. dang. day.)  Meal prep on lighter days, so you are prepared on those crazy days.

I’ll leave you today with the images of my breakfast and dinner. Lunch was a banana, so that was…meh.  (Dentist appointment killed my mouth for several hours, so eating wasn’t an option.)

Breakfast: Frittata with prosciutto and spinach

Lunch: banana

Dinner: Buffalo chicken over sweet potatoes. Salad with cucumbers and lemon vinaigrette dressing. And a couple of garlic stuffed olives. So much yum….
